Melissa & Patrick | Lambertville, NJ

In the middle of the river, and through the woods… We celebrated Melissa and Patrick’s first year of marriage with a Lambertville wedding anniversary adventure.

We LOVE anniversary and engagement shoots. It’s a time to relax, for our couples to focus on each other, and explore. Wedding timeline pressures are off and we get to wander around with two people in love. I’m not sure what could be better. So, when The Conroys were ready for their one year photo adventure, we couldn’t think of a better place than where they got engaged: Lambertville, NJ.

We arrived just down the street from the Lambertville Inn (a place I frequent as often as I can) to meet Melissa and Patrick. We began by walking down the Delaware to a place the Conroys often bike together. To our delight, they decided to surprise us with gorgeous location after gorgeous location. Absolute heaven on a perfect Autumn day. We started our adventure (literally) in the middle of the Delaware river. The fall foliage was breathtaking and, as usual, these two were cuddled up and laughing immediately.

We wandered through and around fallen trees, hiked just off the trail, and found ourselves inside of an abandoned train. It was our dream come true as photographers. Of course, these two wound up not only opening their hearts to us once more, but giving us a grand adventure in simply spending the afternoon with them.

We ended our time together by walking to the exact spot Patrick asked Melissa to marry him. It’s a location just under a foot bridge, marked by a red painted heart. I recognized it immediately. When Melissa first contacted me about her wedding photography (about two years ago now) she had sent me a photo of her hand on that heart. Upon reaching the spot tears began to surface (mostly Melissa, but also from myself – I couldn’t help it!). We bore witness to a flood of emotion as this incredible (indescribable) couple shared some whispered words: “I found you.”

Happy Anniversary to these two incredible humans. We are so lucky to know you.

(A special thank you to Melissa’s sister Lynette for being the best bouquet/purse holder, and just amazing to hang out with).

…And our walk to where Patrick asked Melissa to marry him, which began with a hello from this backyard cat. <3 (Did you really think I’d take a photo of a cat and leave it out of the blog? If so, you are mistaken.)
